Finding
a local fresh seafood market may not be feasible, depending on where
you live. Fortunately, the Internet is loaded with sites that offer
fresh seafood of all sorts. Many sites offer overnight shipping to
the lower 48 states. Unless you live near the coast, or there is an
exception to the rule, these sites afford the best chance to get really
fresh seafood.
The ultimate fresh seafood market would offer fish and seafood so
fresh that it never needed to be frozen. Such places do exist, but
freezing fish is a practical and effective way to keep them fresh
if they aren’t going to be sold immediately on shore. In fact,
the sooner fish is frozen after being caught, the better. Many fishing
boats have the capacity to freeze fish while still at sea.
Typically crab legs are cooked and frozen before they hit the market.
If that won’t cut it, find an online fresh seafood market that
offers live crab. Live Dungeness crabs are more common than live king
crabs, but both can be found. There are also dozens of sites that
ship live lobsters in special packaging. Even if there is a decent
fresh seafood market in your area, online stores will offer a wider
range of choices, at similar costs.
