Mahi-mahi
is actually a dolphin fish, unrelated to the mammal dolphins. Mahi-mahi
is sought after for taste and availability almost year round. These
fish are found in warm waters, most notably off the west coast of North
and South America, Southeast Asia and in the Caribbean Sea.
Fishing Mahi-mahi used to be an inadvertent, or incidental event. Commercial
fisherman would pull some in with large tuna or swordfish. Now the fishing
industry actively fishes for Mahi-mahi. It is a sought after fish due
to its fresh, sweet and mild flavor and firm white flesh.
Mahi-mahi can be a great option for the household cook that wants to
begin integrating some fish into their family’s diet. This mild,
versatile fish is a readily available, economical seafood option to
experiment with at home. You may find Mahi-mahi is just the seafood
to introduce to your pickiest eaters.
