Seafood
cocktail sauce is easy to make and easy to modify. Throughout the cocktail
sauce eating world people have found different ways to personalize their
sauce. In parts of Europe mayonnaise is added, creating something similar
to American fry sauce. In the Southeastern United States folks add enough
Cajun spices and seasonings to make catfish seem tasty.
A basic seafood cocktail sauce can be made by combining 1 ½
cups ketchup and 2 ½ tablespoons of horseradish. For a little
more zip, try adding some or all of the following ingredients:
• 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• ½ teaspoon celery salt
• 2 ½ tablespoons lemon juice
• ½ cup mild chili sauce
• 1 teaspoon hot sauce
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and salt and pepper to taste. This
will make enough seafood cocktail sauce for at least six people. Cocktail
sauce will compliment almost any seafood. It is most commonly used on
fried items such as shrimp, clam strips and calamari.
