Seafood
pasta comes in an overwhelming number of varieties. Recipes differ largely
based on nation and region. So many different types of pasta coupled
with an astounding array of edible sea creatures make for virtually
endless combinations. On top of that there is usually a sauce which
could be composed of nearly anything.
One interesting type of seafood pasta is Calamarata. Calamarata is
a type of wide, tubular pasta noodle. They are formed into rings which
vaguely resemble the calamari for which they are named. Calamarata is
usually served with a light tomato-based sauce and tossed with calamari,
scallops, clams, mussels or other types of shellfish.
Shrimp scampi is often served on top of pasta, often combined with
a light butter sauce. Fettuccini Alfredo with seafood mixed in the sauce
is also among standard types of pasta seafood. Because seafood is low
in saturated fat and usually does not contain many calories it is a
good companion for pasta. Omega-3 acids, vitamins and minerals will
work to offset some of the damage heavy pasta noodles and rich creamy
sauces are doing to the heart.
