Seafood seasoningBrand name seafood seasoning is designed to ad zip and flavor to almost any type of seafood. Combinations of herbs and spices developed specifically for seafood have been around for decades. One popular brand of seasoning has been on the market for more than sixty years. It was developed by a German immigrant in New England for use on crab meat.

Certain combinations of seafood seasoning are recommended for specific species of fish. Here are a few:
• Cod – Fennel, parsley and thyme
• Halibut – Basil, dill, fennel, marjoram, saffron, tarragon and thyme
• Salmon– Basil, chives, dill, marjoram and tarragon
• Trout – Garlic, dill and parsley
• Sole – Chervil, dill, saffron, savory and thyme

Lemon is a popular seasoning and garnish on all types of seafood. Store-bought seafood seasoning often includes a combination of some of the following herbs and spices: salt, black pepper, red pepper, ginger, celery salt, dill, ginger, paprika, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and bay leaves. It can be used on poultry, pork or salads as well. Ideally it is meant to evoke beautiful days on sandy beaches.
