Cooking
shrimp scampi takes less than a half hour and requires minimal culinary
experience. Ingredients are simple and easy to obtain. In fact, most
of them can be found in any household so shopping should be a snap.
Depending on the cost of the shrimp it is a very inexpensive dish to
make.
Shrimp are typically sold by “count”, which is a reference
to size. The count is the approximate number of shrimp it would take
to make a pound. For example, there would be 20 shrimp in one pound
of 20 count shrimp. Generally speaking, the lower the count, the larger
the shrimp, the higher the cost will be. Shrimp scampi can be made with
any size shrimp.
Typical shrimp scampi recipes involve little more than shrimp, butter
and garlic. Salt, pepper and fresh parsley are other common seasonings.
A good recipe should involve lemon juice somewhere along the way. Shrimp
can be placed on toothpicks and served as hors d’oeuvres, left
in the butter mixture as a delicious side dish or served over pasta.
